She possessed a royal horoscope-the name 'Domna' means 'wife of a king'- which combined with her intellect and beauty, attracted much attention. She had two sons with Septimius Severus, who went on to become the emperors Caracalla and Geta. Julia Domna was awarded the title Mater Castrorum, 'mother of the camps', for her willingness to share in the hardships of military life which she experienced when travelling on campaign with her husband, and later travelled to York and London when Caracalla and Geta went on military campaign in Britain. She later gathered a coterie of men of learning and culture around her, adding to the prestige of the Imperial court in Rome. Her coinage was issued under Septimius and later under her sons and posthumously under Elagabalus. [No Reserve]
