250 AD. Wife of Trajan Decius, Rome mint. Obv: HER ETRVSCILLA AVG legend with diademed bust right, hair carried up the head in a plait, on crescent. Rev: PVDICITIA AVG legend with Pudicitia seated left, drawing veil from face, holding transverse sceptre. RIC 59b; RSC 19; Sear 9495.4.33 grams. ("). From the private collection of a retired Suffolk gentleman. Little is known about Herennia Etruscilla, although her name suggests she was of noble Italian ancestry. She was assigned one of the six officinae of the Rome mint. Following the death of her husband, the empress was treated with honour by her husband's successor, although because Herennia survived, Gallus' own wife, Baebiana, was unable to assume imperial rank. Etruscilla's ultimate fate is unknown. [No Reserve]
