Bronze Age, Antique statue: Master of Animals, Luristan, 1000 BC – 700 BC Description: Ancient Luristan, ca. 1000 to 700 BCE. This is a bronze hollow tubular standard in the style of a "master of animals", a subhuman figure standing above the heads and necks of equally stylized, and somewhat leonine creatures. The figure's arms encircle the animals in what some have seen as an image of control. Below the animals are further stylized images, which may be masks. Suggestions for their interpretation have ranged from the religious -- depictions of deities, idols, talismans, etc. -- to the utilitarian -- parts of chariots or used in funerary rituals. Width: 3.25 inches = 8.3 cm; Length (height) 8.5 inches = 21.6 cm. Weight: 12.6 oz.= 357 g; Provenance: Ex-John Piscopo collection All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. We ship worldwide and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
