端溪水岩子石，方形制砚。方形下凹墨池，造型独具匠心，实在是不可多得的砚材，砚堂并无明显下凹，浑然一体不露斧凿痕迹，石眼旁侧开墨池，凿作井栏造型，构思巧妙，意境绝佳。端砚，因老坑而居四大名砚之首。老坑始采于唐代，盛于宋，距今1300多年，是最早开始开采的端砚坑口，故称“老坑”。因坑口内采石区常年积水，故又称“水岩”，最受历代砚痴追捧的还属老坑端石。
