34 x 46,2 cm Condition Huang Yongyu (born 1924), China, dated 1978, White Lotus. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on paper. Signature of the artist: "White Lotus. Huang Yongyu, wuwu year (1978)". One seal: "Huang". Huang Yongyu is a painter, wood engraver and graphic artist from Fenghuang in Hunan. He belongs to the Tujia nationality. During World War II he studied with Li Hua (1907-1994) and Lin Fengmian (1900-1991) in Chongqing. Later he studied woodcuts in Shanghai. In 1948, he went to Taipei and Hong Kong, in 1953 he returned to Beijing and became a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing. From 1966 to 1972, he was sent to the countryside to work as a peasant. In 1978, he designed the landscape tapestry in the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall. He settled in Hong Kong as a professional artist and later returned to mainland China.
