177 x 93,5 cm Condition Guo Hanshen (Kwok Hon Sum) (1947-2003), China, dated, The Highest Enlightenment. Hanging scroll, ink and colours on paper. One seal: "Ink painting by Hanshen" (Hanshen shuimo). Guo Hanshen (Kwok Hon Sum) is a painter from Guangdong. He graduated from the Fine Art Department of Normal University in Taipei. Later he studied ink brush painting in the Extramural Studies Department at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He works in Hong Kong and held solo exhibitions in Hong Kong and the USA. This painting is reminiscent of the Thousand Buddhas Caves in Dunhuang with the walls filled with small images of Buddha. But here, the wall breaks and the light of Buddha comes through. The scroll has a title lab inscribed by the artist on the outside: "The Highest Enlightenment. Painted by Hanshen in the Xinyi Studio." with seals: "Guo" and "Xinyi xuan".
