The flat cover is applied with a link finial, which is pierced with a quatrefoil opening. The cover is inscribed with a poetic inscription Songfeng Shuiyue (Pine breeze, water moon), followed by the date and a signature 'Lian Pu'. There was a fashion that scholars engaged in the design and production of Yixing teapot in the mid Qing Dynasty, which introduced more literati designs such as painting and calligraphy to the teapot. Shuai Hanjie, sobriquet Lan Juan, was a female poet, also of the Daoguang period. Another teapot bearing the marks of Lian Pu and Lan Juan qing pin was published in Huzhong Tiandi (The world of the Yixing teapot), 1987-1, p. 24.
