9th-11th century AD. An Eastern European iron spearhead, of elongated foliate shape, narrow blade with shallow fuller, medium long shaft. (VII-XI ???), (Arms in Bulgaria in medieval period, 7th 12th century), ?????, 2004, pl.XLIII, no.515. 239 grams, 33cm (13"). Property of a London gallery; previously from a private British collection; formerly acquired from a European gentleman; acquired in the 1990s and earlier. The spear belongs to the type 2 of the Yotov classification of the spearheads. Such spearheads of Mediterranean origin were widely spread in the Balkans army of Byzantium, Bulgaria and also among the Scandinavian warriors serving in the area. Condition Report Fair condition, cleaned and conserved.
