12th-6th century BC. A bronze dagger with circular-shaped pommel, a raised rib above the slightly indented ricasso; the midrib forming a Y-shaped guard at the attachment point between the hilt and ricasso; three deep grooves on both sides of the pointed blade. See Maxwell-Hyslop, R., 'Daggers and swords in Western Asia: a Study from Prehistoric Times to 600BC,' in Iraq, Volume 8, 1946, pp.1-65, pl.V, fig.36a. 132 grams, 34cm (13 1/2"). Property of a London gallery; previously in a private UK collection formed 1980s-1990s. Similar swords came from the settlements of Tepe Sialk and from Luristan. Examples of straight-sided blades with blunt ends from Georgia also show single indents at the base of the hilt. Condition Report Fine condition, chipped.
