Description
Translation provided by Youdao
13th-14th century AD. A mixed group of three bronze zoomorphic belt fittings comprising: a rectangular plate bearing a lion running left, crescents and star in the field, rivet to four corners. See similar mounts in Egan, G., Pritchard, F., Dress Accessories, 1150-1450, London, 2002, figs.497-500. 16.8 grams total, 31-35mm (1 1/4"). Property of a gentleman from Vienna; from his private collection; previously acquired in Munich, Germany, between 1992 and 1996. These distinctive late 13th-14th century belt plates perhaps had a military function. The missing rivets were probably for attachment to a strap on the reverse. The decoration is similar to earlier medieval finds, but the ornate copper alloy/tin buckles and belts suggest a date in the late Middle Ages. For this specific lot, 5% import VAT is applicable on the hammer price [3, No Reserve] Condition Report Fine condition.
