Cretaceo Period, 100-93 million years BP. A large Carcharodontosaur saharic African T-rex tooth, with some good enamel; held in a white card collector's tray. 17.2 grams, 66mm wide (2 1/2"). From the Tegana formation of the Sahara Desert, Morocco. Acquired during 1980s. Old Lincolnshire collection. Carcharodontosaur was a gigantic carnivoro carcharodontosaurid dinosaur that lived around 100 to 93 million years ago, during the late Albian to early Cenomanian stages of the mid-Cretaceo Period. It was discovered to be the second largest predatory dinosaur, larger than Tyrannosaur and Giganotosaur, but not as large as Spinosaur. The Carcharodontosaur is named after the shark gen Carcharodon (from the Greek karcharo meaning 'jagged' or 'sharp'), odonto meaning 'teeth' and sauros, meaning 'lizard': 'jagged-toothed lizard' or 'sharp-toothed lizard'.
