In these two images we can see two different drawings that have a characteristic inmon. Both seem to be a study or a sketch rather than a finished work in itself. In both pieces we find thick lines and sketchy strokes that serve as a guide for the author, who in both cases is laying out aposition made up of several figures. Studies are often ed to understand the issues involved in depicting subject matter and to plan the elements to be ed in finished works, such as light, colour, form, perspective andposition. Studies can have more impact than more elaborately planned work becae of the new ideas the artist gains as he or she explores the subject. Such details help reveal the thought processes and techniques of many artists.
