Spanish school; first half of the 19th century. Notes on popular types Ink on paper. Sizes: 15 x 10 cm; 8.5 x 10.5 cm; 10 x 8 cm; 6.5 x 10.5 cm. Traditionally, Spanish painting and literature of the 19th century have been interested in popular ctoms and types. Sorolla himselfmented "I want to give, always within the verism of my school, a representation of Spain; not looking for philosophies, but for the picturesque of each region". This trend spread to all the provinces of Spain, Andalia being the most famo for its depiction of popular life. However, thanks to the growth of the bourgeoisie, there was a boom in costumbrismo in all themunities, which was weed and disseminated by the artists of the region. An example of this can be seen in these four scenes, which are based on the tradition of everyday life. In two of the works that make up this set, two human figures can be seen; one of them dressed as a mketeer and the other as a nun. Both are archetypes typical of the society, especially linked to the Spanish tradition that spread abroad, which presented an exotic country full of priests, nuns and highwaymen. The other two drawings are totally different from each other, one of them showing a view of a small village, while the other features a cat.Dimensions: 15 x 10 cm; 8.5 x 10.5 cm; 10 x 8 cm; 6.5 x 10.5 cm.
