2nd-1st century B.C. A late Iron Age decorated bronze spear mount, circular stepped collar at the butt with banded decorative grooves and a plain concave disk; double-pierced for attachment. Cf. British Museum, Guide to Early Iron Age Antiquities, 1925. p. 158. fig, 190. 34.6 grams, 56 mm (2 1/4 in.) Ex Sumner Healey, New York, USA, 30th April 1929. Deaccessioned from the Armoury museum, Massachusetts, USA, c.2013. Dr D G collection, 2013-2019. This ferrule was with most probability the terminal end of a spear, in many cases usually quite plain (like the one found in Inverury), but here ornamented with horizontal grooves.Condition Report: Fine condition.
