A William IV mourning pendant brooch, the central black enamelled lozenge shaped panel with applied flowers set with rose cut diamonds, all set to a pierced and embossed scrolling shell and foliate border, the reverse with glazedpartment containing braided hair, engraved 'Ann Hawker, Obs 13 Oct. 1834', hinged pin and simple loop fastening and pendant bail to reverse, 34mm x 27mm, weight 6.0gmsCR; All stones are present. A few of the stones show small chips and nibbles, and general wear and scratchingmensurate with age and use. Enamel shows scratching and wear but no cracks or losses. The central panel is slightly loose in it's setting - there is heavy wear to the claws, however it appears secure. There is heavy denting to the scrolling frame, and splitting and thinning in several places. Glazed panel in good order, some nibbling, scratching and wear, but no large cracks or losses. Engraving in clear. There is heavy bending to the pin, however it is in working order. Pendant bail and settings in good order. Possible signs of later replacement. See pictures for illustration.
