By Tadatoshi (circa 1770-1840), Nagoya, Edo period (1615-1868), 19th centuryEmerging from its shell and bending over the top, its optic feelers extended, the fleshy part of the body trailing beneath, forming the himotoshi; signed with ukibori (raised) characters in a rectangular reserve Tadatoshi. 3.5cm (1 3/8in) wide.
