By Kanshosai Toyo, Edo period (1615-1868), mid 19th centuryThe red ground decorated in gold and silver takamaki-e, kirikane and mura-nashiji with five small birds perched in a row on a trailing leafy branch, the design extending on the reverse, the interior of dense nashiji, signed Kanshosai with a kao; with a porcelain netsuke in the form of a sparrow and a glass ojime, both unsigned; with a wooden storage box. 8.1cm (3¼in) high.
