|The 36th Ryder Cup Matches were held 22–24 September 2006 in Ireland at the Palmer Course of the K Club in Straffan in County Kildare. It was the first time the event was played in Ireland.Darren Clark a Captain's pick had recently lost his wife to cancer: 'Everybody this week has been unbelievably kind to me and sympathetic. The American team and their wives as well, giving me hugs, which has been amazing...I just wish Heather was here.' At the conclusion of the Matches, the European team wore pink blazers in support of breast cancer research. Europe took the Ryder Cup for a record third consecutive time with an 18½-9½ victory over the USA.
