Description: This okimono shows a samurai seated on a folding chair and wearing a garment that is beautifully carved with great attention to detail. He is wearing tabi, wide trousers and an apron made from tiger fur. He is holding a fan in one hand and a sword is attached to his belt. The facial features and hair style are finely crafted. Shiny black inlaid eyes with a sharp expression. The mon (emblem) on his garment is called mokko, an old emblem also described as ‘melon’ which is popular among many samurai clans. Signature MASA-JO 正 女 on the underside on the tiger fur. Condition: One restoration on the chair, otherwise very good condition Provenance: From an Austrian private collection
