Description: Kannon is the Japanese version of the bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, who is also known as Guanyin in Chinese Buddhism. Here she is seated in lotus position on a high throne, heavenly garlands fluttering around her and jewelry on her spiritually elongated head with long pearl chains. She is holding a vessel or maybe a magic pearl, as she usually holds a vase as a vessel, in one hand. Signature SHUN-GETSU 春 月, meaning ‘spring moon’, however the name is known in netsuke art, on the flat base. Condition: Good condition Provenance: From a German private collection
