Kanakabharadhvaja in meditation at upper left and Vajriputra seated at lower right with a fly whisk in his left hand and the right in a pointing gesture, both surrounded by worshippers bringing offerings and by narrative scenes telling their life stories amidst a mountainous landscape with pavilions. The scenes with Tibetan inscriptions in gold. Gouache and gold on cloth. Brocade mounting. Strong wear, crack.The 16 arhats are generally painted as a set. Typically the full group would include the Buddha Shakyamuni, the 16 arhats, the attendant Dharmatala, the patron Huashang and the four guardians of the directions: Vaishravana, Virupaksha, Dritarashtra and Virudhaka.
