Scholar Gathering, 19th centuryHandscroll, ink and color on silk, bearing a signature reading Songnian, with four illegible seals, with a title slip, frontpiece, and box all inscribed by Chen Qiquan and dated to dingyi year (1977), with an additional spurious frontpiece signed Ke Jiusi and two colophons signed Qian Yanru and Gu Dingchen. 13 1/4 x 170in (33.8 x 431.8cm)
|佚名 十八學士圖 設色絹本 手卷 十九世紀Provenance Flodins, Stockholm (receipt)With a letter both in Chinese and English from the National Museum of History, Taipei, 18 May 1978, written by Ho Hao-Tian. The letter stated the handscroll together with lot 276 are both more than one hundred years old. The museum was commissioned to mount the paintings. There is a second authentication letter in Chinese by He Ho-tian and Zhuang Yan indicating the handscroll with lot 276 were painted during the Qing period.
