The Chinese Nephrite celadon jade censer carved in a traditional fangding squared body, rectangular opening supported the square domed lid with flared finial. Two slightly curved hands emerged from the sides. The exterior decorated in relief with centralized Taotie mask patterns. The taotie mask may be totemic and can resemble protection or be a representation of the forces of nature. It has served as a warning against greediness, gluttony, sensuality, self-indulgence.
