VERY FINE PAIR of Chinese valued Zitan wood scholar cabinets. Each is of rectangular form and constructed from panels of Zitan with beautiful graining and rich deep-purplish-brown tone. The hat chest has two square panel doors. The doors open to reveal a single shelf. The larger cabinet below has rectangular panel doors. The doors open to reveal the shelved interior with two drawers and a hidden compartment fronted by a horizontal panel one cabinet. The legs are of rectangular section and are joined by aprons and spandrels at the bottom. Front panel elaborately dense carved with vigorous dragons amidst scrolling clouds and adorned with brass. The Zitan wood display smooth lustrous dense hardwood with dark purple-brown hues patina and feathery fine grain.
