Massive Chinese Ming Jiajing blue porcelain Potting Jar. A slightly angled lip flows into the Broad shoulders which bulge outward and then curve back inward to create a more feminine waistline continuing down into the circular base. The body is decorated with Ming-blue water lily, seagrass, and other marine flora; Which makes up the habitat that the carp thrive in. The carp is accepted to represent longevity, wealth, abundance, and perseverance. The foot rim reveals the cut edges during the making process, and the base left unglazed with grayish creme-brown ground and dark spots of firing marks. Mark on collar, a horizontal six blue underglazed script -KaiShu- characters, enclosed within rectangular frame, JiaJing Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
