Japanese Satsuma earthenware censer, the globular body molded into eight swelling facets and finely painted in gilt and bright colored enamels with four panels featuring a Gagaku drum behind a curtain or chrysanthemum along a brushwood fence, all reserved on a gilt brocade ground and bracked by shippo-tsungai or squared lappet bands, the base with four short supports and inscribed Hachiryo/Yatsumine bracketed by a blue Shimazu family crest and red enamel painted seal, the dome-shaped mixed metal (Shakudo) cap centered by blossoms radiating pierced petals.
