Joel Joseph studied drawing and painting as a young artist for many years at the Cleveland Museum of Art. At Northwestern University, Joseph studied art and was taken under the wing of George Cohen, chairman of the art department, who became Joseph’s mentor and guided introduced him to many artists, included noted social realist Ben Shahn, as well as galleries and museums in Chicago. Some of Joseph’s work in the concrete poetry genre, which consists of poetry in words and images.
