Futcher (ownership inscription on free front endpaper).FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the free front endpaper: "With the compliments of the author." A transcript of Garrod's lecture to the Royal College of Physicians in June, 1908, in which he outlines a direct relationship between enzymes and genes on a one-to-one basis. This relationship was further developed by George Beadle and Edward Tatum in the 1940s, and formed a link between traditional clinical medicine and genetic science. Garrison-Morton 3687; Norman 1511.
