Dr. Austin Flint is best known as the author of A Practical Treatise on the Diagnosis, Pathology, and Treatment of Diseases of the Heart" (Philadelphia, 1859), the "first authoritative American book on diseases of the heart" (Bedford 351). An important association copy of Osler's landmark lectures which constitute the "first comprehensive description of subacute bacterial endocarditis" (Garrison-Morton 2790).
