此件香炉铜材极为精良，形制规整，敦厚沉稳之中又不失玲珑精巧，包浆亮丽。炉直口微撇，鬲式，鼓腹，三乳足，口部双耳冲天，故称为冲天耳炉。冲天朝天，有崇敬上天之意，在皇室中颇受青睐，往往置于朝堂之上，《宣德鼎彝图谱》中有此款香炉图例。炉子底部铸“大明宣德五年监督工部官臣吴邦佐造”十六字款，吴邦佐为明宣德年间铸炉官，专铸御用铜炉供朝廷使用。
