Wooden sculpture, height 180 cm Defects, The representation of one of the primary aspects of the life of the native Ifugao, in the Philippines, in addition to the cultivation of rice with its protective gods, is that of the deer hunter, accompanied by his trusty dog. It is often possible to find wooden statues of the hunter with the deer on his shoulders at the entrance of the houses. But how this find from the first half of the 1900s came to us, passing through a Bavarian castle, remains a mystery, full of questions: was it brought by a merchant who had relations with the Philippines? Or by an explorer bewitched by the idealized anatomical beauty of the hunter? Or perhaps still as a souvenir of his homeland?
