The case with overhanging cornice and blind-cut fret raised on spiral ebonised columns, the long door inlaid with three panels of bird and foliate scroll marquetry over a (restored) base on bun feet, the 11 inch square brass dial with winged cherubs head spandrels and engraved foliage, the Roman and Arabic silvered chapter ring with half-quarter marks enclosing the minute band, the finely matted centre with ringed winding squares and a chamfered decorated date aperture, signed in flowing script between V and VI, the weight driven movement united by five latched, knopped and finned pillars, the going train with anchor escapement,the strike acting via an internally mounted countwheel 2.05m (6ft 8.5ins) high
