SERGEI SOUDEIKINE (RUSSIAN 1883-1946) Portrait of Jeanne Soudeikine oil on canvas 71 x 56 cm (28 x 22 in.) signed lower right LOT NOTES Jeanne Soudeikine, née Palmer, was an American soprano, most famous for her roles in Wagner's operas, staged at the Metropolitan Opera. Palmer and Soudeikine met in 1925 and married shortly thereafter. She features prominently in several important works of the period, including the Soudeikine family portrait (with their cat) in Woodstock, a 1928 mural based on Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, and Self-Portrait: A Resume of the Life of Sergei Soudeikine.
