玉蝉以上等白玉琢雕而成，半透明状，玉质温润。蝉体作三角柱状，背部棱起，蝉身两翼平洁。头部以减地隐起手法勾勒出突眼，颈部阴刻两组横线，线头见锋。玉蝉身部厚实，边缘渐落，造型精练。玉蝉腹部皆以阴线琢刻足及腹纹，线条凝练挺拔，口部装饰一对牛鼻穿孔，通体打磨技巧颇见功底。蝉蜕于浊秽，以浮游尘埃之外，不获世之滋垢，制作玉蝉代表了古人追求君子之高洁，是一种典型的精神世界的产物。
