The drawing was examined in the original by Dr. Dagma, director of the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin. According to oral expertise, the age of the present drawing roughly corresponds to that of Greuze's mutually executed original drawing ''The ungrateful Son'' in the National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., the date of which research has given as about 1770.
