Overall size 145 x 164cm.|A couple of peacocks standing on a rock, next to light pink and white blossoming peonies.|The decorative painting of the Kanô school was popular in the Edo period. Peacocks are in|Japan not native, but were an exotic import. They are a symbol for compassionate|watchfulness and are associated with the Bodhisattva Kannon. Two-fold screen with silk|mounting and surrounding wooden slat. Condition B/C. Traces of use, restored.|
