|Japan. Edo period. 18th c.|Wood, lacquered with gilded parts. The six-armed Buddha, dressed with an open front robe and high headpiece, seated on a lotus throne and surrounded by a cloud mandorla. His main arms are folded in front of the chest, the other four arms are lifted holding objects, of which only a sword and a bottle or bag are preserved. On the back of the mandorla four characters: Gan shu shô tei (transl. roughly: We beg you, master, illuminate this yard). Height 38.1cm, width 20.4cm. Condition B. Supplement: Lotus throne on cloud base. Japan, 18th c. Wood with lacquer and leaf gold.
