A near pair of Charles II oak side chairs or back stools, Derbyshire/South Yorkshire The top rail with three arches having cusped edges, raised on slender turned spindles, the lower rail with carved moulding, the panel seat raised on block-and-baluster supports united by low level stretchers. 49cm wide, 100cm high, 43cm deep (2) Footnote: Provenance: The Edward Phillips Collection, Halls Welsh Bridge rooms, 6-7 November 2012, lot 502 Footnote: A very similar back stool was sold by Bonhams as part of The Beedham Collection, Chester, 24 May 2012, lot 46. To the underside of one seat can be seen the inscribed outline for intended carving, the timber then repurposed in this chair.
