C. AD 618-907. Tang Dynasty. Large terracotta head of a soldier. The soldier is depicted scowling with a creased brow, fierce eyes, wide nose, curling moustache, pinched lips, and wearing a helmet. Figures of this type were particularly popular during the Tang Dynasty which which placed great importance on depicting aspects of Chinese political and social life including warriors, servants and ladies of high status.
