A George III sterling silver teapot on stand, London 1792 by Henry Chawner (reg. 11th Nov 1786) The teapot of ogee oval form with fluted panels, the fluted tubular spout opposite a worked ivory handle pinned to fluted tubular sockets. The waisted top leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a detachable fluted ivory finial. The body with bright cut engraved bands of anthemia and rosettes against a striated background. Each side with a bright cut shield shaped cartouche surmounted by a vacant elliptical cartouche surrounded by rosettes and crossed branches, each engraved with contemporaneous initials JLF in flourished cursive script. The stand of conforming shaped raised upon four reeded splay feet, engraved with the same decoration and initialled cartouche. The teapot with scratch weight 17”2 as well as numerals 2088, the stand with scratch weight 5”10 and numerals 1679. Fully marked underneath stand and teapot, the lid with ion passant only.
