William R. Tittle Autograph Letter Signed with Shenandoah Valley Campaign Content. Four pages of a bifolium, 4.75" x 7.75", Mount Jackson [Virginia]; June 15, 1862. In this letter to his brother, T. A. Tittle, Tittle discusses the 55th Ohio's movements after they marched out of Franklin. It is written in pencil and reads in part: "...We left Franklin May 25 th and marched to Petersburg the 1 st day...we left at Petersburg and have layed out every night since that time the 28...We started toward Strasburg marched a short distance When We herd the cannons roar ahead the Word then Was onward...here the shanado river had to be crost it is 1 miles from town and Jackson had burnt the bridge..." Signed, "W R Tittle." Envelope, measuring 4.25" x 2.5", included. The Battle of McDowell, along with five other engagements, made up the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1862.
