Rolfe (Henry Leonidas) Rolfe's Angling Sketches. 'Not Long Caught', oval lithograph printed in colours by J West Giles, an excellent clean impression finished by hand with body white, sheet 440 x 590 mm (17 1/4 x 23 1/4 in), under glass, minor surface dirt, framed, printed by M & N Hanhart, published by E. Gambert, 1854 Literature: Beazley, David, Images of Angling. Three Centuries of British Angling Prints, Creel Press, 2010, no. 204 ⁂ Henry Leonidas Rolfe (1823-1881) was devoted to the depiction of angling subjects and was, unsurprisingly, a keen fisherman himself. Henry Leonidas Rolfe's good friend Alfred Jardine, the great Victorian pike angler, called him simply 'The Fish-Painter'. Another friend, the leading fish biologist of the day, Frank Buckland, described him as 'The Landseer of Fishes', and the artist described himself somewhat self-deprecatingly as 'The Scaly Painter'.
