Description
Translation provided by Youdao
A market takes place on a large, elongated square. The city shows a Central European appearance. However, such large spaces were rare. The depiction could have been inspired by the Rossmarkt (today's Wenceslas Square) in Prague, but remains a fantasy vedute. At the front right, a hawker is apparently selling prints, and further back a theatrical performance is taking place. The theme and style of the painting is very much influenced by the “Bamboccianti”, the Dutch painters of everyday life in Rome. Oil on canvas, 73 x 113 cm
