Walter Emerson Baum (American, 1884-1956) Corner Drug Store (The Corner Store) Signed 'WE BAUM' bottom right, oil on Masonite 26 x 36 in. (66 x 91.4cm) Executed circa 1951. Provenance Private Collection, Pennsylvania. Footnote: Exhibited "Members' Annual," The Woodmere Art Gallery (now Woodmere Art Museum), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1951, no. 89 Note The present painting was awarded the $25 Woodmere Prize for Best Picture when exhibited at the Woodmere Art Museum in 1951. Condition report: In overall good condition, with some surface soiling in the sky along the top outer edge (very locally). We also note some flaking at upper center left, above the street lamp. Examination under UV reveals some drippy, greenish varnish throughout the composition. We notice a small repair at bottom left, to the left of the striped figure. Another, smaller, one also visible on one of the houses' facades at center left. See Specialist's pictures for more details. Frame: 33 1/2 x 43 3/4 x 1 1/2 in.
