TWO BRONZE BUDDHIST FIGURES 16th/17th century The first figure of Buddha Shakyamuni with eyes downcast, the head adorned with tight curls around the ushnisha, seated in dhyanasana with his hands clasped in front of his chest, wearing long flowing robes adorned at the hems, raised on a triple-lotus pedestal, traces of gilt-lacquer remaining, wood stand, 14.8cm (5 15/16in) high; the second a bronze figure of Sudhana, the acolyte of the Goddess of Mercy, poised bowing with his hands joined in reverent prayer, wearing a long billowing celestial scarf, his garments tied around his chest and adorned with lotus and floral scrolls, wood stand, 16.2cm (6 3/8in) high.
