A large mother-of-pearl-inlaid black lacquer two-tiered picnic box and cover Probably Ryukyu Islands, 19th century Elaborately inlaid on the flat top of the high domed cover with a design of stylised dense leafy flowering lotus heads in profile, the design repeated in five continuous bands around the sides, the stepped spreading foot with two narrower lotus-scroll bands, the interior entirely covered in glossy tomato-red lacquer. 41.5cm (16 3/8in) high.
