A FINE SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF A LUOHAN 17th/18th century Shown seated on a separate and simulated rockwork dais, the luohan depicted with a serene expression defined by downcast eyes and a short beard and moustache between pendulous ears, his left hand on his lap, the other holding a sprig of sprouting lingzhi fungi, his layered robes engraved with scrolls of blossoming lotus filled in with black pigment, the robes left open at the chest exposing his dhoti, the stone of pale beige tone with russet inclusions. 13.5cm (5 2/8in) high.
