AN OTTOMAN TURKISH-INSCRIBED PALE GREEN JADE PLAQUE MOUNTED ON A SILVER BOX The plaque 18th/19th century The plaque of oval form, inscribed with a calligraphic Ottoman Turkish inscription organised in two rows, the stone of pale green tone, mounted on a small silver box finely engraved on the base and sides with scrolling tendrils and interlacing geometric designs. 5.5cm (2 1/8in) long. For the sake of one soul (i.e. your own) do not ingratiate yourself with all souls, For the sake of the pleasure of the world, do not ingratiate yourself with a sultan.'
