Chinese artist, 19th c. A pair of ancestor portraits of an official and his wife, dressed in winter clothing, seated on horseshoeback chairs. Gouache on silk. Mounted on silk. 129×83 cm and 122×82 cm. Hanging scrolls. (2) Provenance: Telegraph Manager and Art Collector Sophus Black, 1882–1960. Inscribed at reverse: “23. Kvindeportræt til nr. 22”. And “Portræt, Mand, hængte godt i Børneværelset”. Meaning: “23. Female portrait to no. 22.” And “Portrait, Male hung well in the children's room.”
