AN EMBELLISHED SILVER SNUFF BOTTLE Tibetan-Chinese, 19th century. The rare bottle shows high relief decoration of mongoose eating fruits of longevity and embellished with turquoise and carnelian cabochons. The shoulders carved in relief with lion masks and inlaid with carnelians. The matching silver stopper and spoon surmounted by a coral bead. Condition: Good condition with expected wear. One inlay missing and the spoon slightly warped. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
